The Camden Central High School Lady Lions earned their fourth district title in as many years as top area teams converged on Camden on Oct. 2 for the District 12AA Volleyball Championships.

The hosting Lady Lions didn’t dissapoint, dropping Creek Wood in three sets before dispatching Fairview in the same fashion to claim the title.

The CHS Ladies started off playing Creek Wood for the opportunity to advance to the championship round. Camden struck quickly, winning the opening set 25-9. Sets two and three were finished off with solid scores of 25-12 and 25-15. Seniors lead the way throughout these games, with the hard hitting of Briley Hardin terminating the ball with force 10 times. Eden Pafford earned a team high with 21 digs, and Jordan Vick set the ball for 31 assists on offense.

In an evenly matched middle bout, Fairview beat Cheatham County to advance to the finals in a 5-set thriller. That excitement would be short-lived, however, as the Lady Lions were poised and ready to take the title for the fourth straight year.

Never allowing Fairview to score more than 13 points in any game, the CHS Ladies won in straight sets, with scores of 25-10, 25-13, and 25-11. Again, the team was led by its seniors, with Briley Hardin leading all attackers with 12 kills, Eden Pafford putting up 11 kills and 18 digs, and Jordan Vick adding another career “triple double” of 10 kills, 13 digs, and 30 assists. Senior Sarah Bradford, junior Abby Pierce, and sophomores Abby Berry and Lydia Dykes also made substantial contributions on defense.

“Number four was just as sweet as the first one,” Coach Stephen Vick said. “I told these six seniors they have truly left a legacy here that will not soon be forgotten. Winning four district titles in a row really sets a standard for future teams to follow.”

Several Camden players picked up district honors at the end of play. Berry, Hardin, and Pafford were named to the All-District Team, while Bradford, Dykes, and Pierce made the All-Tournament Team. Senior standout Vick earned most valuable player honors for both the All-District and All-Tournament Teams. Coach Vick was named District 12AA Volleyball Coach of the Year by his fellow coaches.

On Tuesday, Oct. 9, the Lady Lions hosted their region championship games at the CHS gym. The details of those contests will be reported in the Oct. 18 edition of this paper.
