The high school football season officially will get under way Friday night when the Camden Lions take the field for the annual “Battle of the Bridge” versus the Waverly Tigers.

Read all about the Lions, including complete rosters for CHS and CJH teams, pictures, and schedules of Camden and other area high schools, in the annual football preview section inside this edition of The Camden Chronicle.

Along with the first game of the regular season comes the paper’s popular football contest. The first week of the football contest appears on page 2B in this edition.

Dust off the ole’ crystal ball, sharpen your pencils, and enter the contest for a chance to win braggin’ rights – and $25! – each week by picking more winners than anyone else. Each entry is free with the contest inside The Chronicle. It is easy and fun! Here is how it works:

In each sponsor’s ad there may be multiple numbered games like: 1. Camden at Waverly. Write who you think will win in the “1.” blank on the contest form. Then follow the same process through game number 16.

Don’t forget the high-point tiebreaker rule! If more than one person gets the same number of correct picks, judges use this to break ties. Simply guess the most points you think any one team in the contest will score that week and write that number down.

Because things are subject to change, if a game is cancelled, it will be marked as a correct answer. The contest will use all high school games until college games begin.

Enter the contest each week. Be sure to turn in your completed entries at The Chronicle office by 5 p.m. each Friday, or have them postmarked by that time. The best pickers will be announced in the next week’s newspaper. First place winners each week get $25.

Not only will the best pickers win the weekly contest, each first-place winner will be entered in a drawing to win $250 at the end of the season. As a consolation prize for those who don’t win, each contestant will be entered in a drawing for two $25 prizes at the end of the season. Each name will be entered in these drawings only once.

With money on the line, get busy studying up on this season’s football teams, and make your picks. Enjoy!
