SOMETHING FUN FOR EVERYONE – Activities Director Dana Cole (center) leads a rousing game of bingo with the residents, while new BCVP volunteer Beverly Davidson assists. Residents at the Camden Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center enjoy Bingo every Tuesday from 2-3 p.m. and every Friday from 10-11 a.m.

The past two years have been rough for many people and businesses due to COVID, but things slowly seem to be getting back to “normal.” One area that has been a little slower to recover has been the return of volunteers to all former workstations. Volunteer Coordinator Chris Stone is hoping to rectify that by bringing the joys of volunteering with the Benton County Volunteer Program (BCVP) to the forefront.

For the sole purpose of protecting its residents, Camden Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center has been one of the slowest to allow volunteers to return to its facilities. With safety procedures now in place, they are eager to greet the kind-hearted volunteers of BCVP who enjoy spending time with their residents. Volunteers who would like to share some fun with the residents at Camden Healthcare must be fully vaccinated and boosted, and wear masks while visiting.

There is no experience necessary to volunteer at Camden Healthcare – you just have to enjoy people and be kind. Some of the tasks that volunteers help with are passing out snacks, getting residents to and from activities, and reading to residents.

Residents love to play games and cards, so you might find yourself in a lively competition. If you are into gardening, you could help maintain the plants around the building or keep the raised planters in the courtyard beautiful. Residents love to watch the birds on the feeders. If you are crafty, you might share a craft with a group and teach them something new. If you have a hobby that you enjoy, you might speak to the group about your passion. Sharing music is always a joyful experience.

There are more female residents than male at Camden Healthcare, but visitors all ages, male or female, are always welcome. Just sitting, visiting, and talking is always appreciated by the residents. They’d love to have you visit, even if it’s only an hour a week.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer with Camden Healthcare, contact Chris Stone at BCVP 731-584-6060 or Activities Director Dana Cole at Camden Healthcare at 731-584-3500. The residents would enjoy your company so much, and it would put a smile on your face, too!
