The UTM Office of University Outreach has partnered with the Tennessee Department of Education to offer free virtual ACT workshops and classes throughout the fall.

The ACT success tactics workshop will teach students test-taking strategies for math, science reasoning, English, and reading. These courses are designed to give students an overview of the challenges that each section addresses and provide educational methods to solve them.

The two-hour sessions will be conducted via Zoom. Math and science reasoning are available on Sept. 3, 7, 9, 13, 19, and 24; and Oct. 1, 2, and 15. English and reading are available on Sept. 1, 3, 8, 9, 14, 21, and 24; and Oct. 1, 2, and 15.

University Outreach is also offering ACT mastery classes, which provide more in-depth ACT prep instruction. Students will be able to take a practice exam and learn strategies not taught in the success-tactics workshop. The mastery class consists of four class meetings in a one-week period, and students are expected to attend all sessions.

All mastery classes are offered from 5-7 p.m. on the following dates: Sept. 26-29, Oct. 10-13, and Nov. 28-Dec. 1.

A new addition to this year’s workshop is ACT deep dive: Exploring geometry and algebra in-depth. This course includes a comprehensive review of geometry and algebra problems covered on the exam.

These classes are also offered from 5-7 p.m. on the following dates: Sept. 6, Oct. 3, Oct. 17, and Dec. 5.

UTM adjunct faculty member and author Alex Beene will teach the courses. He currently serves as a lead instructor for Tennessee Audit Education in three counties and primarily works with rising high school juniors and seniors needing academic help with major standardized testing.

Participants will need access to a computer with a secure internet connection and video/audio function. To register and for more information, visit utm.edu/actprep.
