PROPERTY TAX BREAK – Clockwise from left, Tammy Hartley, Laura Pruiett, Glenda Peirpoint, and Trustee Beverly Beal want to talk with county property owners about property tax relief programs.

The staff at the Benton County Trustee’s Office want everyone in the community to know that property tax relief potentially is available to many citizens in the county.

If your annual household income is less than $31,600, and you are disabled, a disabled Veteran or the widow(er) of a disabled Veteran, or age 65 or older, you probably are eligible for property tax relief. In some cases, all property taxes for a primary residence may be waived if qualifications are met.

“In my campaign I had said I was going to have tax relief meetings because there are people in our community who are not aware of this program. It’s important to me that everyone who qualifies gets this relief, because times are hard and every little bit helps,” said Trustee Beverly Beal. “Helping others is my top priority here in the Trustee’s Office, and I will be proactive in learning about any programs available to help people in Benton County.”

Beal has planned four community meetings to provide citizens with information about property tax relief, or to answer any other property tax questions people have. These meetings will be held in Camden, Eva, Big Sandy, and Holladay.

On Saturday, Nov. 5, Beal will hold a meeting from 10 a.m. to noon at Camden City Hall. That afternoon, she will meet with interested parties at the Eva United Methodist Church from 1-3 p.m.

On Saturday, Nov. 19, Beal will meet with citizens at the Big Sandy Senior Citizens Center from 10 a.m. to noon. Later that same day, she will hold a meeting for county residents at the Holladay United Methodist Church from 1-3 p.m.

Of course, anyone can seek information about property tax relief during office hours on any weekday at the Trustee’s Office in the Benton County Courthouse, either by calling 731-584-6211 or visiting the office. Property owners also can visit tncot.cc/taxrelief for more information. There is no deadline to apply for property tax relief based on being disabled or age 65 or older.
