Elves at our hometown newspapers have worked really hard typing all the letters from our kids for Santa’s reading pleasure so that he can check off his lists while he fills his sleigh.
The weather is cooperating very nicely as the clock winds down on not only Christmas Day but also on 2018.
How well I remember Christmases as a youth.
With four guys around the house and a widowed mother who had to double as Santa, we were happy with a stocking full of various fruits, a few nuts, some gum and a toy or two.
Our house had a wood-burning fireplace. We would find the longest sock in our sock drawer and nail it to the top of the mantle. Intrigued on Christmas morning to imagine what caused all the bulges in the socks we would hurriedly empty them on the hearth and scoop up our treasure finds.
Socks would double as mittens to build a snow fort and stash it with snowballs.
Maybe it is just me but it seemed like we used to get a lot more snow.
Schools will soon be out for the Christmas break and kids will find it hard as they count down the days until Christmas Eve.
Our hope is that families will be able to spend some quality time together over the break. I know there will be some servicemen and women who will not be able to come home for Christmas and our thoughts and prayers are with them.
We hope that our readers enjoy reading through the letters to Santa and seeing all the Christmas greeting messages from the merchants.
