Tragedy strikes again

Just past 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening, Oct. 2, Chalk Level and Holladay McIllwain Fire Departments responded to a fire at the home of Ken Berry in Holladay. According to Chalk Level Fire Chief Richard Kee the home was already fully engulfed when firefighters arrived on the scene.

Kee said, “It was immediately apparent that the house was a complete loss.”

Firefighters continued to battle the blaze until 1 a.m. the following morning. Firefighters remained on the scene into the day.

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and State Fire Marshal’s Office were on site early Thursday morning. Kee said the house was vacant and the fire remains under investigation.

Early Sunday morning, the fire on the wood deck around the pool re-ignited around 2 a.m. and firefighters returned to the scene.

The blaze happened nearly seven months after his practice at The Berry Clinic lit up the court square in the early hours of March 25. That massive fire not only decimated the clinic, it also damaged adjoining buildings.

Investigators were unable to identify the exact cause of the clinic’s fire. The Department of Commerce and Insurance report dated on August 28, stated the official cause of the March 25th fire was “undetermined.”
