Tips for Creating a Productive Home Office

Posted

There’s no question that COVID-19 has shaken the world. In turn, those of us who are fortunate enough to remain employed are most likely working from home. That said, the people who struggled to be productive at the office have to be productive at home. If that’s you, continue reading these tips for creating a productive home office.

Have a designated workspace with plenty of natural light

Working from home gives us the perfect opportunity to stay in our PJs and work in our pitch-black bedrooms, but that can actually hurt your productivity. Instead, you should have a designated workspace; that way, your work brain activates when you go into wherever you deem “the office.” To keep yourself healthy and motivated, establish an office with a window. The natural light will keep you energized, alert, and ready to take on the day.

Invest in comfort

Some companies have made the choice to keep their employees working from home for a much longer period than they originally expected. If that sounds like your employer, you should make sure you have a comfortable and ergonomic workspace. How far you take this tip is up to you. You could purchase a standing desk, get a new office chair, or merely change the cushion on your dining room table chairs. Either way, you need to be comfortable to be productive.

Keep your workspace clutter-free

Nothing ruins productivity quite like a desk full of clutter. Not only will you waste more time trying to find what you need, but you’ll also struggle to keep things straight. You may even fall into the trap of working on multiple tasks at once but never actually finishing anything. Develop a routine where you clean your workspace every day once you punch out. Otherwise, your workspace will certainly end up a mess.

Ensure your internet plan can keep up

Luckily, we live in a time where many of us can work from home due to the improvements in the internet. However, that doesn’t mean all internet plans can handle your workload. Many of us at home will have wireless networks. However, if you’re not sure, or if you need a more reliable connection, consider the pros and cons of wireless vs. wired networks.

Some of us longed for the day when we could work from home, while others are dreading every minute of it. However, with these tips for creating a productive home office, you should be on your way to a happier and more productive workday.
