Camden Elementary School’s (CES) Oscars Night celebrating the biggest story book character event of the year, was held on Tuesday, March 19. Second grade teachers, Pam Pettyjohn and Kim Troutt, along with Assistant Principal Kristie Wilson hosted the fun filled event.
Students arrived at CES dressed in character attire and were met by photographers as they mingled on the red carpet.
Also arriving to watch this character star studded event were family members, friends, and fans, while the local paparazzi snapped photographs of all the creative wardrobes. Students chose a character from one of their favorite storybooks and wore a costume based on that character.
The students gave a small report about their book as their “acceptant speeches”. Each character was announced as a nominee against two other fictional nominees. The winners of each category accepted their very own Oscar Award Trophy and they gave a short report about their storybook and character. Each character was announced as a nominee against two other fictional nominees. All CES “stars” were winners.
According to Pettyjohn, the students and parents look forward to this event every year. She said that she and Troutt are extremely proud of the students and already anticipate next year.
