Support the county fair!

Posted

Well, it is official - fall is now upon us. Time to bring out the pumpkin spice, sit back and watch all the beautiful leaves start to change. Benton County is truly beautiful this time of year. Take a drive down the county roads and see for yourself.

It’s fair week here in town. We hope that each of you enjoy this year’s fair by visiting all of the exhibits and events associated with it. If you enjoy the fair, be sure to support it by making a trip, or multiple trips, down to the fairgrounds.

Besides, who doesn’t love some good fair food? By purchasing food from locally staffed booths at the fair, the Benton County Rescue Squad and the Benton County Library will benefit. Volunteers from each of these organizations work countless hours during fair week to provide delicious food, so stop by for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Also, please remember that from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, you can bring three canned food items to the gate and get a $3 discount on an armband. All food will be distributed by Second Harvest Food Bank to food pantries in Benton County.

CHAMBER SPOTLIGHT

This week’s Chamber Spotlight highlights our American Job Center. What is the American Job Center? It is where people and jobs connect! They help people seeking employment and employers seeking quality employees. Located the Mann Foundation Community Resource Center at 145 Hospital Drive, our local career advisor Connie Wright can be reached at 731-584-1711.

American Job Center offers free services to jobseekers, such as access to resource centers, employers, job fairs, job openings, and networking. They also assist with resume preparation, job search skills, interview techniques, and basic computer assistance.

Needs-based scholarships or individual training accounts are available through the Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA). Local training institutions such as Bethel, Dyersburg State Community College, and Tennessee College of Applied Technology are just a few schools that have programs approved for funding.

American Job Center provides employers with everything they need to find quality employees, such as recruitment events, job postings, testing and assessments, labor market information, and opportunities for training grants. Given the chance, the American Job Center can connect any business with the right employee at the right time.

The Benton County/Camden Chamber of Commerce is proud to have the American Job Center as a valued member, and an important part of Benton County’s workforce development.
