State park to host fall festival

Posted

Halloween is just over a week away, and if you are looking for a fun family event, NBF State Park has just what you are looking for.

The Park will host a fall festival on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 2-7 p.m. at the Group Lodge located just across from Happy Hollow Campground. Kids can wear their favorite costumes and enter the costume contest. Costume judging will begin at 5 p.m.

There will be wagon rides throughout the park, hot cocoa, crafting, and candy. Baby J’s Food Truck will also be set up selling tacos and other snacks for Halloween revelers to enjoy.

Pumpkin carvers who want to show off their skills should make plans to enter the park’s Pumpkin Carving Contest. Carve a pumpkin at home and drop it off at the park museum by the end of business on Friday, Oct. 30, along with a $5 entry fee.

Voting on the pumpkins will take place on Oct. 31 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. The public is invited to stop by to cast their votes. Bring coins or small bills to use in casting your vote for your favorite pumpkin, as each entry will have its own money jar to receive “votes.”

The pumpkin that raises the most money will be chosen as the winner. Proceeds raised from the votes will be used towards building a new birdcage at the museum so the park’s raptors can be displayed for the public.
