Hoping to rally voters and garner a win, politicians from Congressman Marsha Blackburn to Dr. Mark Green found their way to Benton County with just a little more than a week before elections.
On Thursday, Congressmen Marsha Blackburn and David Kustoff stopped off in Camden and visited several local businesses.
Blackburn, who represented Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District for 16 years is now campaigning for the U.S. Senate Seat vacated by Bob Corker.
Also in Camden was 8th Congressional Representative David Kustoff who is seeking a second term in the U.S. House of Representatives. Kustoff represents a small portion of the northernmost section of Benton County. Senator John Stevens joined the two Representatives.
Then on Monday, Dr. Mark Green, a physician, businessman, and veteran running for Congress in Tennessee’s Seventh Congressional District, made a stop in town and set up camp just across from McDonald’s on Hwy. 641. He offered voters an opportunity to stop in and get to know his political side while eating free hotdogs. Green said he decided to run for office during his 25th class reunion at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Seeing again the words on the statue of Gen. Douglas MacArthur, “Duty, honor, country,” he realized that he had a duty to fulfill. Last year, Mark was nominated by President Donald Trump to serve as the U.S. Secretary of the Army. He said he withdrew due to obstruction from Senate Democrats and attacks on his Christian faith.
In the State Senate, Mark serves as the Vice-Chair of the Senate Commerce Committee and as Chaplain of the Senate GOP Caucus.
Former District Attorney Bruce Griffey was in town on Monday evening handing out candy with his wife Rebecca during the Camden Halloween on Court Square festivities. Griffey said he would love the opportunity to bring some jobs and industry back into the community. Benton County is ideally placed and has the best chance for economic development right here off of Interstate 40.”
Griffey finished by saying, “We also need to focus on education. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to represent the county.”
The General Election is on November 6, with early voting opened through November 1.
