New body scanner detects weapons, drugs

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office has purchased a Tek84 Body Scanner machine for use at the Benton County jail.

The funds to purchase the body scanner were generated from an ELC grant that was applied for by the Sheriff’s Office. This grant was offered by the State of Tennessee Department of Health. Lt. Allison Jordan, who is second in command at the jail, was instrumental in finding and applying for the grant.

The body scanner can detect concealed objects and threats such as weapons, explosives, drugs, and precious metal.

Every person entering the jail will now be screened by the machine to keep those things from being brought into the jail facility. This will help to ensure the safety and security of the jail population, deputies, and correction officers.
