Local turkey hunters award scholarships

Posted

On Thursday, April 25, the Benton County Strutters chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) awarded scholarships to two promising youth. CHS seniors Matt Blow and Hunter Stettner each received $250 to apply toward expenses when they begin college next fall.

The NWTF is an international non-profit organization whose mission is to conserve the wild turkey and preserve the country’s heritage of hunting wild turkeys in their natural environment. Each year, through the fundraising efforts of chapters like the Benton County Strutters, the NWTF provides scholarship money to qualified applicants, works to fulfill its mission, and supports its many chapter groups.

Every year on the third weekend in July, the Strutters hold a banquet and auction fundraiser in Camden to generate monies to support the charitable efforts of the larger NWTF. Most of those funds are returned to the county to be used by the Strutters to fund the chapter’s scholarship awards, youth outdoors hunting and fishing activities, and more. The scholarships are available through an application process to any qualified Benton County student.
