Investigation continues in The Berry Clinic fire

Posted

Locals noticed the arrival of several arson investigators and investigation truck on Wednesday, just two days after the March 25th fire that engulfed The Berry Clinic. Fire Chief Jerry Pierce said the fire continues to be under investigation, therefore making it impossible for him to say more.

Reaching out to the Department of Commerce and Insurance Communications Director Kevin Walters, information was still caught up in an investigation with little to be released so early on.

State Arson Agent Bryant Allen is the lead investigator on the case, but said he could not comment at this time. He works with Billy Deering at the State Fire Marshals Office. Deering said the case will remain under investigation for some time.

What can be reported is the state of the historic building that now stands in shambles. According to Pierce, the two-story building would be hard to salvage. He said the attic ceiling caved in and caused debris to cover the interior of the structure. In addition, Pierce said the water damage is ineffable.

To be clear, many things could start a fire of this magnitude, including severe weather and faulty wiring. The presence of investigators does not signify foul play, fires involving places of business are usually investigated by outside sources.

Once the report has been finalized, more information about the fire will be released.

Berry Clinic associates are keeping up with patients through social media. According to a post, patients are being referred to Family Health Care.
