Glover’s Trace welcomes new member

Posted

The Glover’s Trace Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) recently welcomed a new member, Debra Daniel. The ladies of the Glover’s Trace were pleased to have Daniel join their ranks.

Daniel traced her genealogy back to Revolutionary War patriot John Hatley, who was born in Virginia around 1735. During the Revolutionary War, he lived in Chatham County, N.C.

His patriotic service was proven by the discovery of North Carolina war vouchers that were issued to him. These vouchers were given in lieu of cash for supplies furnished to the military, and could later be redeemed for the cash value of the materials.

Revolutionary War patriots were citizens who served in or helped the military in numerous other ways, such as providing feed for livestock, guns, ammunition, clothing, food, or medicine for use by the military. It took the help of not only soldiers fighting battles, but also everyday citizens willing to help in the fight for our American freedom.

DAR welcomes any woman who can prove lineage to a Revolutionary War patriot. To learn more about the Glover’s Trace Chapter of the DAR, contact Thelma Traut at trautt@bellsouth.net or 731-584-0721 or Mary Hershey at hersmk@charter.net or 731-234-8797.
