Former hardware store renovation underway

After sitting dormant for several years, a historic Camden building is getting a new look. The building on the court square that once housed Hall Hardware recently changed hands from Barry Fowler to Mark Ward. Ward, who also serves as Benton County Mayor, is engaging in this as a private venture, along with his wife Lori and their neighbors, Bill and Tara Gilbert.

“I just couldn’t stand to see it torn down,” Ward said of the building, which has significant renovation needs that Ward estimates could cost more than $100,000.

Ward said Tuesday that after renovation, which could take up to a year, Lori and Tara plan to put a retail business in the building that will also rent wedding and event equipment and accessories. There are also plans for a small event venue for small gatherings.
