Farmers' market proposed for Camden

A Farmers Market, a Splash Pad and Convention Center at the corner of South Forrest Ave. and Extension St. was proposed by Benton County Mayor Brett Lashlee at the Camden City Council meeting on Monday, Oct. 14.

Working with grants and sharing some of the costs with the city, Lashlee said the facility would change the entire face of the city as you enter near the city limit on South Forrest. “We need to invest in our future. By doing so, we are showing the community that we care about them and want to see growth. It would be great to see the county and city work together for the betterment of all citizens.”

Councilmember Randall Clark said the city is still working to pay a 1996 debt for schools that won’t be paid until 2021 and questioned the return on investment for the city. “Also, we need to inform the citizens and let them have a say-so.” The council agreed on the latter and will hold a citizens' informative meeting before the next council meeting on November 12.
