Dollar goes further to help local children this summer

Posted

Summertime should be a welcome break from class, when kids can just be kids. Many students have been looking forward to family vacations, playing with friends, and reading in the sunshine. However, for some kids in Tennessee, even in Benton County, summer means long days at home with an empty pantry.

With a statistic of 22.3% of Benton County children not knowing where their next meal is coming from, Second Harvest Donor Relations Manager Donna Vick said it is more important than ever to get involved. “During these critical summer months, people have the opportunity to make a significant difference once again,” Vick said from her office at the Ray Smith Distribution Center in Camden. Vick continued, “Our community’s future depends on our children.”

Vick explained that a generous group of donors have offered to match all contributions to Second Harvest up to $250,000 to make this a hunger-free summer up until July 31. She said, “Every dollar you give will provide twice as much food for children and families who otherwise might go hungry.”
