CHS Baseball picks up speed

Posted

After a disappointing start with four losses in a row, the CHS baseball team picked up speed last week with a run of three wins. With a solid second week behind them, the Lions are poised to move on toward district play in the weeks ahead.

Following the 1-4 loss to Lewis County on the road on Monday, March 18, the Lions hit their home field ready to play. And play they did! The home crowd roared as the Lions brought in a 10-0 shutout versus East Hickman on March 19. At Thursday night’s home game, the Lions bested McEwen 4-2, again with vocal support from local Camden fans.

On the road to McKenzie for Friday night’s game, the Lions made another strong showing, defeating McKenzie 12-4. The game had gone play for play, tied at 4-4 at the end of the sixth inning, when CHS exploded in the batter’s box. By the time McKenzie pulled in three outs, the Camden boys had knocked down eight runs, including a homerun by Jace Riley, to finish the game with a dominant score.

In week three, Camden faced Fairview and Hickman County (scores not available), before moving on to a Thursday night home game versus Riverside. They head to Perry County on Friday night, before playing district games against Creek Wood on Monday and Tuesday nights, April 1-2.
