On Thursday, July 25, the CHS and CJHS Cross Country (XC) teams hosted “Run Boston in Tennessee,” a 5K race run on Reynoldsburg Road in Camden to raise funds for the XC teams. With 96 participants finishing the race, the inaugural event was a huge success.
Runners were treated to a “Boston Marathon” experience, with transportation to the start line, cheering fans along the route, and a fast, shaded course. Those who earned a new personal record best time got to ring the “PR Bell” in celebration.
The overall male winner was CHS freshman Will Douglas, who completed the 3.1 miles in a time of 17 minutes, 17 seconds. The overall female winner was CHS teacher Jennifer Pierce, who ran the course in 20:22. The victors were crowned with laurel wreaths and given gold medals.
Winners in the 13 and under bracket included Ayden Melton in first, Pete Douglas in second, and Ridge Bruce in third for the boys’ group. In the girls’ group, Emma Pierce, Alyssa Travis, and Lauren Pierce earned the top three spots. In the 14-19 bracket, the top male finishers were Eyan Hudson, Beau Smith, and Connor Cox. Bailey Morris, Amber Collins, and Elli Reynoldson placed first, second, and third in the female category.
Alex Walters and Dillon Schueler were tops among men aged 20-29, while Olivia Fowler and Jenna Leonard took the top ladies’ spots in this group. Among runners aged 30-39, the top men were Andy Ross, Brandon Sims, and Josh Roberson. The first three ladies in this group were Emily Pierce, Nicole Blackburn, and Neysa Clayton.
In the Masters Category, for runners aged 40 or older, Sid Osment was the male winner, while Danielle Pafford ran the best race for females in this group.
In the 40’s age bracket, Mark Pierce, Brad Mills, and Corey Christopher were the men’s top three. Renee Sutton, Beth Farmer, and Deedie Jones were first among the women. For men in their 50’s Quade Pierson finished first. For ladies in this group, Susie Belisle, Sheri Osment, and Tammy Carter earned the first three spots. In the 60 and older bracket, Joey Cooper and Lee Christopher were the top men, while Liz Pressey finished first in the women’s group.
XC coaches Sarah Comuzie and Amber Douglas wish to express their gratitude to all the sponsors, parents, and participants for the outpouring of support for these Camden athletes. With such a great turn out, the fundraiser brought in approximately $2,300 for the teams.
