On Tuesday, Oct. 22, the CHS Cross Country (XC) team competed at the Martin Westview Invitational 5K. In this meet, the top 20 individual runners would receive medals, and the top three teams would take home trophies.
In the boys’ varsity race, senior Pete Douglas ran to a fourth place medal time of 16:53. Matthew Arnold ran his fastest time of the season, earning a 19th place medal with a time of 18:09. Kade Johnson also ran his season’s best time of 18:25, narrowly missing a medal by placing 21st. Jackson Thornton ran strong to secure the 38th spot.
The girls’ varsity race saw junior Kaydence Christopher lead the Lady Lions with an 11th place medal time of 22:32. Sophomores Sadie Fry (27th, 24:49) and Paislee Matlock (32nd, 25:15) scored next for Camden. Katie Ramlow, Jaylin Hagler, and Kaitlin Martin all finished within 15 seconds of each other to complete the Lions scorers.
With a team score of 96 points, the Camden girls earned the second place team trophy, their best finish of the season. With only three boys in the race, Camden did not earn a team score as five runners are required for team competition.
After the meet, Douglas was honored on Senior Night for his four seasons running with CHS XC. Coaches Amber Douglas and Sarah Comuzie congratulated Douglas for his success over his high school career.
The Lions XC raced next in the Region 7 A-AA meet, held at Martin on Tuesday, Oct. 29. The top four teams and/or the top five individuals in each race advanced to the State meet. The outcome of this meet was not available at press time.
