Heading into the third week of regular season play, Camden Volleyball was sporting an undefeated record. That all changed in a challenging road match versus Harpeth on Sept. 3, which ended with the loss of three sets, 21-25, 19-25, and 20-25.
“Harpeth was one of our toughest road trips of the year. We did not expect to go in there in and drop three straight sets,” said Coach Stephen Vick. “The atmosphere that Harpeth was able to produce in that gym was a bit overwhelming for our team. Statistically, it was the worst performance of the season so far, starting off with bad passes, leading into off-the-net sets that left no power on our attacks.”
Last Thursday, Sept. 5, saw a different Lions approach to the evening in the home game versus district opponent Cheatham County. Camden pulled the victory with wins in three straight sets, 25-14, 25-14 and 25-9. Camden showed its old form on offense, spreading the ball around and having nine players put marks in the kill category. Rylee Rushing lead with 8 kills, 2 aces, and a block, followed by Lydia Dykes and Kinsley Peach with 7 kills each. Abby Berry had her third great defensive outing in a row with 20+ digs, completing 24 on the night.
Junior Varsity
The junior varsity squad came away with two wins this past week, beating both Harpeth and district foe Cheatham County. Emma Jackson led the team with 8 kills, 10 aces, and 10 digs. Karlie Davis added 10 kills, 9 aces, and 6 digs. Jaycie Robinson once again played the setter position to perfection, with 21 assists, 4 kills, 11 aces, and 7 digs. Defensive specialist Audrey Jackson had 6 digs and showed off her offensive skills as well with 8 aces.
