The Benton County Bass Anglers completed their first outing of the season at home on Kentucky Lake on Saturday, Sept. 26. A total of 136 high school boats competed in the West Tennessee Region Bass Nation High School tournament that set off from Eva Beach.
Tournament winners were from Mt. Pleasant, catching five fish for a total weight of 17.66 lbs. A team from Mt. Juliet caught the biggest fish at 5.82 lbs.
Eight high school teams fished for Benton County. Weston Bivens and Matthew Lambdin did best, catching three fish for a total weight of 6.76 lbs., landing 12th place. Hayden Jennette and Talon Stone came next in 21st place, catching two fish with a weight of 4.93 lbs.
Trey Dooley and Jack Farmer earned 49th place with one fish weighing 2.16 lbs. Cody Bolin and Mikey Rushing placed 60th with one fish of 1.37 lbs., while Karson Goodwin and Clayton Sneed placed 63 with a fish weighing one pound.
The teams of Allen Corbitt and Peyton Perry, Drew Hardin and Alex Townsend, and Josh Hughes and Zackery Thornton also fished for Benton County, but did not have any luck on the water that morning.
The next two tournaments of the fall season will be held at Pickwick on Oct. 10 and Nov. 21. Fishing will resume in the spring with a tournament at Perryville Marina in Kentucky on March 20, then back to Pickwick on April 17. The West Tennessee High School Championship will be held at Perryville on May 1.
