More than 70 deer have been donated to the Benton County Sheriff’s program, “Sharing the Bounty” so far, this year and the sheriff is asking for more.
“We are so thankful for all of the hunters contributing,” Sheriff Kenny Christopher said on Monday.
“We want to encourage them to continue dropping off their game with us. We are open for their donations from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., every day of the week.”
The program teaches the inmates a trade, skinning and processing the deer. It then provides meat for local families in need. Finally, the hides are donated to the Elks Lodge 318 for the Veterans program.
Thus far, Veterans have made therapy kits, wheelchair gloves, keychains, and vests.
“Nothing is wasted and everything is used for someone’s benefit,” Christopher said. “This is a win for everyone involved and we are so very thankful for everyone that continues to make it a huge success.”
For those needing the meat, pickup is available at the sheriff’s office, Monday through Fridays, 3-4 p.m.
