On Tuesday, October 15, Hwy. 70 bypass was shut down for several hours after a collision at the Birdsong Rd. intersection. According to Sheriff Kenny Christopher, the accident happened around 3:30 p.m. when a dump truck carrying clay gravel and a van collided. Christopher said both drivers walked away from the accident with only minor injuries; however, the cleanup took hours. Tennessee Department of Transportation cleared the road from larger gravel, as Tennessee Highway Patrol and deputies worked the scene. Morris Chapel Fire Department was called to spray the highway clean before it could reopen.
