The list of painful things that can happen to you is near limitless. Some people who go through extreme pain are victims of circumstance, which others have no one to blame but themselves. Regardless of the reason, pain sucks, and no one should have to go through it. However, we live in an imperfect world, so in order to prepare for all of its possibilities, we’ve brought you our list of some of the most painful injuries a person can experience.

Broken Femur

Broken bones almost always hurt. Unfortunately, some of them are significantly worse than others. Broken femurs are said to be one of the worst, which makes sense due to the fact that it’s the strongest bone in the body. Because of that, it would take an immense force to break it in the first place. Femurs can take a while to fully heal and can still lead to pain and other problems down the line.

Kidney Stones

Anyone who’s had a kidney stone can testify to the fact that they’ve never experienced anything more painful in their life. Nothing you do will help the pain go away. The only saving grace is that the pain can be sporadic, but that’s not always the case. Also, it’s good to note that the actual passing of the stone isn’t the worst part. The majority of the pain occurs in the beginning when it’s passing from the kidney to the bladder since the tube between the two is smaller than the urethra.

Shingles

While this disease is only common in older people, anyone who has had chickenpox is susceptible to it. Shingles occurs when the chickenpox virus re-activates inside the body. It causes a painful rash that lasts for up to a month. The worst part is that a small fraction of the people who get shingles go on to develop various levels of nerve pain in the areas that were affected. Due to this and other underlying reasons, the pain can persist way longer than the actual disease.

Third Degree Burns

These burns are the worst you can get. They not only destroy the top layer of skin but multiple layers underneath as well. In extreme cases, the damage may be irreversible, leading to long-lasting pain and discomfort. Not only is there physical pain, but emotional too. These burns can leave a person horrifically disfigured, triggering immense levels of psychological issues.

Slipped Disc

The pain felt from slipping a disk is sudden and extreme, which is why it makes our list of the most painful injuries a person can experience. Even though the pain can be eased by lying down and there are medical options for fixing it, the pain from this type of back injury can be ongoing. People who have had surgeries to fix the problem still report recurring back pain. It depends on the case, but the results from a slipped disc are painful and unpredictable.
