A Camden High School student from Sugar Tree has died just shy of her senior year, according to the report from Tennessee Highway Patrol.
The report stated Taylor Coffey, 17, was a passenger in a vehicle driven by her sister, Jazzlyn Coffey, 19, traveling on Hwy. 641 just before the Benton County Line when a GMC driven by 30-year-old Jonathan Fisher, of Ripley, swerved into their lane.
The younger sister reportedly succumbed to her injuries at Vanderbilt Medical Center.
The accident reportedly happened around 9:22 p.m. on Saturday night. Neither Fisher nor his passenger, Monte Stephenson, 44, of New Johnsonville, were injured, according to the report.
A close family friend said Jazzlyn Coffey received a broken arm, fractured foot, and multiple wounds caused by broken glass, among other injuries. She remains hospitalized in Dickson County.
The news of Taylor’s passing came as a shock to the community. CHS Principal Shawn McDowell expressed sympathy at the loss of one the school’s own students. He stated, “It is with deep sympathy we note the loss of upcoming senior Taylor Coffey. Her passing shocked the entire CHS community and her presence will be missed by so many. There have been messages coming in offering condolences and sympathy for the loss of one of our own.”
McDowell continued, “Through contact with Taylor’s mother we are working to be a part of her memorial service and to celebrate her time with us while we mourn the times we have lost. Please join our school community as we keep this family in our collective thoughts and prayers.” He finished with, “Taylor you will be missed.”
