An investigation by Special Agents with the Medicaid Fraud Control Division of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) has resulted in the indictment and arrest of a Camden doctor on multiple charges of TennCare Fraud.

At the request of 24th District Attorney General Matt Stowe in May of 2016, TBI Agents began investigating allegations that Dr. Agustin Vitualla was overprescribing controlled substances to patients.  During the course of the investigation, Agents developed information that Dr. Vitualla prescribed controlled substances to patients who did not exhibit proper medical necessity for the drugs.

On February 18, the Benton County Grand Jury returned indictments charging Vitualla (DOB: 3/21/47) with 20 counts of TennCare Fraud.

He was arrested in Smyrna on Tuesday and transported to Camden.  He was booked into the Benton County Jail on $50,000 bond.
