Shane Salyers is slowly recovering at Vanderbilt Medical Center from a motorcycle accident that nearly cost him his life on July 9. The other vehicle involved in that accident was a 2009 Mustang GT driven by Tina Baker.
According to Baker, she and her 3-year-old granddaughter were heading south on Birdsong Rd. around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, when Salyers crossed the yellow line to pass a vehicle while traveling northbound.

Baker said a semi-truck was in front of her, blocking Salyers view from seeing her vehicle behind it in the lane. Once the semi-truck had gone by, Salyers reportedly sped up and crossed over into the lane hitting Baker. Baker said she saw the motorcycle just in time to swerve to the right preventing from a head-on collision. Baker remembers Salyers swiping the entire driver’s side of her Mustang and then the man being ejected from the motorcycle.
Other than being shaken up from the accident, Baker said she and her granddaughter were okay.
Baker said, “Thank God I saw him in time or he would’ve went straight through my windshield. God was definitely watching over us all.”
Salyers remains in Vanderbilt. According to his daughter Donna Salyers, he suffered a cracked pelvis, fractured hip bone, fractured neck bone, two broken ribs, several lacerations, and was scheduled for surgery on his wrist earlier in the week when a problem with bacteria in his blood postponed it.
