Create a Scavenger Hunt
With scattered toys, papers, and coloring utensils all over the house, it’s intimidating to know where to start picking up! Your kids can help you clean up those items.
Look around your house and see what types of items need picking up. Is it a book? A blanket? A piece of clothing? Give each child something to find and let them know where to place it once they find it. They’ll report back to you to say they found the item. Afterward, give them their next item on the scavenger hunt list.
Assign Special Tasks
Giving your children various tasks at a young age is an excellent way to teach them responsibility. Designate a special task for each child. Tell them they are in charge of that job.
Giving one specific job allows your child to place all their focus on completing the task. In contrast, giving your child a list of all the things they need to do could be overwhelming and distracting.

If you have multiple children with large age gaps or your kids don’t enjoy the same music, make a playlist with a mix of songs. Each child will feel the excitement when their song plays, motivating them to continue cleaning until the next one.
Teach Them a New Fact
Knowing how to do chores is a learning process. Young children don’t understand exactly how to clean things or why they need to pick up their toys. Learning is exciting for kids. When they remember a fact and learn something new, they’re over the moon with joy!
Along the way, teach them little things about how to keep the floor clean. You can also teach them where to put dirty clothes, the basics of cleaning dishes, and so much more!
