George M. Himes 1939-2022

George Melvin Himes, 83 of Camden, passed away Saturday, August 13, at his residence. Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 16, at 1 p.m., in the chapel of Oakdale Funeral Home of Camden with Jeff Williams officiating. Burial followed at the Camden City Cemetery.

Mr. Himes was born on January 20, 1939, in Hustburg, to the late Elgin M. Himes and Alice L. Macklin Himes. 

He was retired from Consolidated Aluminum Plant and Castle Car Wash. He was a member of Missionary Grove Baptist Church.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty J. Dudley Himes; three brothers, Clyde and Carl Himes, and Jackie Clark, and an infant grandson, William K. Hudson Jr. 

He is survived by a daughter, Denise (Keith) Hudson, of Camden; three sons, Keith (Leeta) Himes, of Dyersburg, Steve Himes of Hollow Rock, and Richie (Pam) Himes, of Hurricane Mills; a brother, Larry R. (Nancy) Himes, of Camden; four sisters, Mary Walkup, of Pegram, Claudine Upchurch, of Bellevue, Peggy (Russ) Nichols, of Charleston, S.C., and Lucy (Willard) Melton, of Waverly; nine grandchildren, Brandy, Kelly, Keisha, Landon, Neil, Trevor, Bretta, Blake, and Brittany, and 14 great-grandchildren.
