The Benton County Genealogical Society (BCGS) was organized in 1986 and chartered in 1987. The group is still going strong with meetings at 6:30 p.m. every fourth Thursday of the month at the Benton County Library in Camden.

The Genealogical Society room at the library is full of county information along with family tree books to enjoy.  The material is not to leave the room, but there is a large table and comfortable chairs to do research there. There are also books on other Tennessee counties as well.

The BCGS has researched and published two family history books, a Benton County Cemetery book, and numerous other tomes through the years. Currently they have copies of the books “Cemetery Listings” from newspapers from 1876 through 1932. This is a five-volume book collection. For more details or to purchase, the library has these books for sale.

Society members are glad to meet people and help them find what they need to do research at the library. New members are always welcome, so join the group at their next meeting on Thursday, Sept. 22, at 6:30 p.m.

Members receive a quarterly publication with rich information in it along with pictures and queries, and they get to meet a group of genealogical lovers with whom to share family stories.
