CJH runners gain experience at state meet

CJH XC AT STATE – From left Kade Johnson, Jaylin Hagler, Sadie Fry, Paislee Matlock, Julia King, Marian Knight, and Jackson Thornton all ran in the Tennessee State XC Championship last Saturday.

The CJH cross country team traveled to Knoxville’s Victor Ashe Park on Saturday, Oct. 22, to compete in the Tennessee State Middle School Cross Country Championship. It was a beautiful day for a long run!

Camden was represented by members of the CJH girls’ XC team and by two CJH boys who earned a chance to run at state based on their individual performances in the sub-state contest.

The girls’ varsity race saw Jaylin Hagler lead all Camden girls with a time of 14:57 for 2.1 miles. Next came Julia King (15:29), Sadie Fry (15:31), Paislee Matlock (15:53), and Marian Knight (17:29). The team placed 21st overall among the best middle school runners in all of Tennessee. 

The two CJH boys representing Camden in the boys’ varsity race, both racing well to top 50 finishes in a field of 317 runners. Kade Johnson was 37th in 12:27 and Jackson Thornton placed 45th in a time of 12:34. 

Coaches Hope Winders and Amber Douglas said that they were so proud of all the CJH runners who competed Saturday and wish to thank the many supporters who traveled to Knoxville to cheer them on.
