The City of Camden just announced many improvements that have been completed or are underway at the Camden City Park. According to Mayor Roger Pafford, improvements have been completed to the playgrounds, pavilions, restrooms, and ballparks.

“The new park staff, Chad Horton and Michael Baker, have been doing a great job maintaining the park grounds to keep our park attractive and neat for our many citizens and visitors,” said Pafford. “We still have a lot of work to do, and will continue to improve the beauty of our park.”

New playground equipment has been installed, and the pavilions have been repaired and painted. Restrooms were updated and upgraded, and are now clean and in good condition for use by park patrons.

New fencing has been added to the baseball and softball fields. Designated smoking and vaping areas also have been added, as smoking and vaping are prohibited in the bleacher and pavilion areas. To maintain the landscaped areas around the fields, Pafford has asked that visitors do not park their vehicles on the grassy areas adjacent to the ball fields.

“This becomes a real problem when park personnel need to mow and perform grounds maintenance,” stated Pafford. “It can also cause lasting damage to the grass.”

The new dog park was made possible by a Tennessee Dog Park Dash grant from the Boyd Foundation, obtained with assistance from the Benton County/Camden Chamber of Commerce. Opened in the spring, Pafford reported that the dog park has been well received by the community. New equipment, benches, and a fountain will soon be installed to complete the park for the enjoyment of pets and their owners.

As far as the city pool goes, insurance issues kept the construction work on hold for some time. Pafford said on Friday that he is hopeful work can be completed and the pool will be ready for next season.
