The CHS Cross Country (XC) team competed at the Frank Horton Night Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 8 at Shelby Farms in Memphis. The cool weather and top-notch competition proved to be a winning combination for the Lions, with most earning personal record (PR) times over the challenging two loop 5K course.
“I am so proud of these students. They showed up and ran well at the Frank Horton 5K on Saturday for a great start to fall break!” said Coach Sarah Comuzie.

The girls’ varsity team was led by Kayedence Christopher with a time of 22:12, a PR for the fast freshman. Next was Emma Pierce in 23:12, Katlin Martin in 25:06, Katie Ramlow in 26:08, and Maribel Conchas right behind in 26:10. Taylynn Boggs and Paeton Henry also raced well for the Lions.
The boys’ varsity showcased a breakthrough race for junior Ridge Bruce, who passed over 20 competitors in the last mile to earn the 10th and final boy’s medal in a PR time of 16:23. Next was Pete Douglas in 17:11, Matthew Arnold in 19:19 (PR), Kevin Knight in 19:29 (PR), and Evan Pate 19:49 (PR).
With all boys under the 20-minute mark for 5K, and the girls team peaking at the right time, the Lions look to make a strong showing at the Martin Westview Region Preview to be held on Tuesday, Oct. 18.
