On Thursday, Oct. 4, the CHS cross country (XC) team competed at the Golden Tornado Invitational at Graham Park in Union City. Six Camden runners took home medals, with four earning their first medals of the season. With 76 total points, the Camden Lady Lions team won the third place trophy for the meet.

The girls’ team raced first, and did an outstanding job on the hot course. Brittney Fox led the team with an 8th place finish time of 23:52. Amber Collins medaled in 17th place, along with Natalie Leatherwood in 18th place. Keelie Troutt and Jenna Odle also scored for Camden, securing the girls’ third place finish.

The boys’ race showcased a battle between top runners from Obion County, Union City, and Camden. After running in third place for most of the race, Camden’s Eyan Hudson overtook region rivals in a sprint to the finish, claiming second place with his season best time of 18:00. Ethan Rickard placed 14th and Cody Oiler 17th, both picking up their first medals of the season. Carson Melton and Kaden West rounded out Camden’s top five scorers among the boys.

Coaches Sarah Comuzie and Amber Douglas were proud of their team’s effort at this meet, and look forward to more team and individual awards at the Region 7 Small Schools meet at Martin Westview on Tuesday, Oct. 23.
