Turning snow into jolly snowmen, Camden’s newest holiday event, Christmas at the Fair went on in-spite of the freezing temperatures and icy conditions.
According to event planner, Kathy Weatherly, the event was more than she could’ve ever asked for. She said the idea for the event came when she was traveling. “We were in Alabama and saw something similar and said we need this back in Benton County,” she said on Saturday morning. “We are always looking for family-friendly events for our fairgrounds.”
Kids of all ages loved the all-day create-a-craft event where a $5 armband gained them access to stations featuring everything from ornaments to slime. They even decorated and wrote letters to Santa Claus.
The vendors were set up across the way. More than 30 vendors were signed-up, not all showed due to the weather conditions. The vendors that braved the cold had everything from goat milk soap and floral designs to hand-knitted hats and bamboo bed sheets.
Shoppers enjoyed picking up last minute Christmas gifts, while buying from local faces.
Donuts and lunch was served and when the sun went down, folks gathered around to watch the lighting of the Christmas Tree. A short time later, Santa Claus showed up to the delight of everyone.
Weatherly said she wanted to thank everyone that attended the event and hopes it will continue to grow in years to come.
