What happened to Fall?

You know…autumn, that season we have between summer and winter.

It seems like we went from 90-50 overnight. It was like the weather was headed down the freeway and saw a state trooper.

I like cooler weather. And I love to see the leaves change. We have just the right assortment of trees it seems to provide a kaleidoscope of colors. It is a magical time when the colors are in full force and just before the leaves all fall to the ground.

Autumn officially begins around the third week of September so we should be right in the middle now. Should not the temperatures be in the 60s and 70s, and not 30s and 40s?
Overnight we went from short-sleeved shirts to not only long-sleeved shirts but also light jackets.

One week from now is Halloween and then the football playoffs. The college and pro seasons are even half over. Then comes November and the end of Daylight Saving Time November 4. We get an extra hour of sleep but darkness will come an hour earlier on the clock. Theoretically it will help with those who wait on school buses in the mornings but it will be dark when most of us leave work.

Not every state observes Daylight Saving Time. Residents of Arizona and Hawaii are on standard time year round and will not change their clocks.

Here at home it means to me that while now it is a 5-hour difference between us and my relatives in Hawaii, on Nov. 4 it will only be 4 hours. That is good to know if I plan to make a call.

I love the seasons and knowing what the temperatures will be like throughout the next day without asking my smart phone is always a mystery.

It is what it is and it is a good time for a hot bowl of chili with cheese and sour cream, and maybe a handful of corn chips.
