The Camden Lions secured a home playoff game with a 35-14 home win over region foe Sycamore Friday on Senior Night.

Camden took a 20-0 halftime lead and outscored the visitors 15-14 in the second half.

“I am very Proud of our guys,” said Camden head coach William Blow.  “It was a very tough and physical game.  It secured us a home playoff game”

Although there is one final week to play and a lot of region games it looks like Camden will earn second place in the region and a home game against probably Stratford of Nashville.

The Lions take to the road to Stewart County this Friday. It is another region game that Camden should win but even if they were to lose they still have second place wrapped up via their win over Sycamore.

Camden 35, Sycamore 14

Camden’s first touchdown came with 4:18 left in the first quarter when senior Dalton Story punched the ball across the goal line from 3 yards out to put his team ahead 6-0. A try for 2 on the conversion came up short. The drive was aided on a late hit penalty on what would have been a fourth down. Junior Darius Porter was called out of bounds on a big run to the 9. Story had 142 yards rushing and two touchdowns on the night on 34 carries. He also completed a 25-yard touchdown to Mason Howard. It was Howard’s first career receiving touchdown.

The Lions were without the services of quarterback Heath Daniel who was ejected from the Westview game for 2 unsportsmanlike penalties. He is eligible to return this Friday.
Camden stopped a Sycamore drive when a pass on 4th down in Camden territory fell incomplete under a good defensive rush.

After a couple of first downs and facing a 4th and 5 at the Sycamore 25, Story, who has rushed for more than 1,000 yards this season and 2,000 in his career, threw a touchdown pass to junior Mason Howard but the PAT kick was no good, Camden led 12-0 with 6:53 left in the half.

Later in the half Quenton Wilson passed 19 yards to Brennan Smith and then ran 44 yards down to the 3 and a first and goal. Quae Taylor scored on the next play from the 3 and Darius Porter ran in the two-point conversion with 1:20 left in the half for a 20-0 lead.

Wilson had 2 carries for 39 yards while Taylor ran 10 times for 18 yards and the score.

Sycamore got its first touchdown in the third quarter when they completed a long pass to the Camden 18, ran to the 4 and scored on the next play. The PAT kick made it 20-7 with 5:02 left in the third.

Camden answered with a long sustained drive that set up a 5-yard touchdown by Darius Porter to make it 28-7.

Sycamore put together a good drive and scored on a 5-yard run with 10:21 left to close the score to 28-14.

Story scored the final points on a 23 yard run on a 4th down and 4 and Ben like kicked the extra point for a 35-14 lead.

Defensively, Camden’s leading tacklers were Hunter Stettner (7), Matt Blow, Tytus Guajardo and Jace Riley 5 each, Derek Poole and Quenton Wilson 3 each.

Blow also had a fumble recovery.
