Camden advances to district tournaments

The Camden Lions and Lady Lions wrapped up the regular season last week with a trip to West Carroll for non-district games. At the close of the regular season, the Lions were seeded number one, going 8-0 in district play with a 22-7 overall record. The third seed Lady Lions had to complete a playoff game versus fourth seed Wavery on Saturday night. By Sunday morning, both teams were headed into District 11-AA Tournament play.
The Lions topped their last regular season game at West Carroll with a win, 75-68. The Lions were paced by Ayden Melton’s 21 points, with Wizdom Laws following behind closely with 20. Kaden Story added 16 to the tally, while Beau Smith chipped in 6. Other scorers included Allan Zyla (5), Nowah Porter (3), Briley Siler (2), and Tucker Jackson (2). Congratulations to Story on reaching 1,000 career points!
In their match up with West Carroll, the Lady Lions lost a heartbreaker by the score of 43-42. Trinity Woodard was the high scorer for the Lady Lions with 11 points. Emma Pierce added 9 points, while Abbi-Grace Wallace chipped in 8. Other scorers included Faith Wallace (5), Miley Hartney (4), Adalyn Furr (3), and Avery Wright (2).

The Lady Lions hosted Waverly on Saturday night for the play off game, earning a big 51-30 victory to keep their season alive. Furr paced Camden, exploding for 21 points to lead all scorers. Woodard contributed 10 in the contest, while A. Wallace added 6. Other scorers included F. Wallace (5), Pierce (4), Hartney (3), and Wright (2).
The Lady Lions played their first tournament game on the road against East Hickman on Tuesday night, Feb. 14, although the outcome was not known at press time. The Lions also play their first tournament on the road at East Hickman on Thursday night, Feb. 16.
