Fire investigators were requested in a fire that claimed a woman’s life and sent another woman to the hospital over the weekend, according to Fire Chief Jerry Pierce.

Emergency personnel were dispatched late into the evening on Sunday to 168 Vicksburg Ave., where Christine Terry, wife of the late former Police Chief William Terry, and Genia Terry lived.

Pierce said the smoke was thick as firefighters from Camden and Eva worked to rescue the women and get the fire under control. Benton County Deputies and Camden Police Officers also assisted.

The mother was airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Center, but later died from smoke inhalation. The daughter was treated at Camden General Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
One local firefighter, Jeremy Robinson, sustained minor burns and injuries and was also treated at Camden General Hospital.

Pierce said anytime a person dies from a fire, investigators must be dispatched. He added that he did not see any cause to suspect arson.
