BIG SANDY CLASSROOM – The 18 students in Heather Barrett’s eighth grade class at Big Sandy School were joined on Feb. 8 by representatives from BCES and TVA for a lecture on energy.
BCES SPEAKER – BCES General Manager Scott Owens talks about how public power companies work for customers.
TVA SPEAKER – TVA EnergyRight Representative Robert Connor talks to students about saving energy.

To help students learn more about saving energy, Benton County Electric System (BCES) personnel and TVA representatives made a TVA EnergyRight presentation to students at Big Sandy School on Wednesday, Feb. 8. The group spoke with the eighth-grade class of teacher Heather Barrett.

BCES appreciates Big Sandy School, Marcy Raus, Barrett, and her students for the opportunity to speak with them. Attending the event were BCES General Manager Scott Owens, Communications Director Andrew Jones, Customer Service Manager Brittany Corbitt, and meter technicians Kenny Autry and Jess Alvarez. Present for TVA were TVA EnergyRight representatives Tim Hughes and Robert Connor.

Connor gave an interactive presentation on how power is supplied to communities in the TVA service area and shared useful tips on how families can save energy at home. The 18 students asked numerous questions on how to save energy.

From Owens, the students also learned about how their local power company works to keep power continuously available for Big Sandy and other areas in Benton County. Owens explained how public power companies like BCES focus on one pole, one family, one customer at a time to ensure the best customer service.

BCES works alongside TVA EnergyRight to bring awareness to customers on energy savings in the home and special EnergyRight programs that TVA offers. To learn more about TVA EnergyRight programs, visit www.energyright.com or contact BCES at 731-584-8251.
