Brandon Cooley

Special agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have arrested and charged a man formerly employed as a corrections officer (CO) with the Benton County Jail in Camden. In September of 2022, CO Brandon D. Cooley, 37, was accused of having sexual contact with a female inmate at the jail.

“Because of the appearance of a conflict of interest, I notified the district attorney’s office for an outside agency to conduct an investigation. This is something we do routinely if there is a potential conflict of interest,” said Benton County Sheriff Kenny Christopher. “Cooley resigned from his position as a CO on Oct. 2, 2022, while an administrative investigation was being conducted.”

After being contacted by BCSO, 24th Judicial DA General Neil Thompson requested that TBI agents began investigating the allegations that former CO Cooley had sexual contact with an inmate. As a result of the investigation, on Friday, Feb. 3, an arrest warrant was secured for Cooley on one count of sexual contact with an inmate.

On Monday, Feb. 6, Cooley turned himself in to TBI agents and was booked into the Benton County Jail. After bond was set by the Circuit Court Judge, Cooley was released on his own recognizance.
