Benton County Mayor Brett Lashlee, accompanied by Benton County Airport Board Chairman Darrell Berry, Airport Board Member Eldon Wimberly, Airport Manager Leonard Pierpoint, A2H Construction Representative Jason Dittrich and County Commission Chairman Ward Plant met with Tennessee Department of Transportation Aeronautics Jim Currey on the five-year Airport Layout Plan (ALP) and Airport Capital Improvement Plan (ACIP) grant for the Benton County Airport.

The ACIP’s are the primary planning tools for airports for systematically identifying, prioritizing, and assigning funds to critical airport development and association capital needs. During the October 2nd meeting, Currey explained the phasing of the improvements needed, projection of cost, and the application process of the available funding.

Benton County has been allotted nearly $350,000 in improvement and expansion grant funding which will initially be started on safety improvements. Just last month, the Benton County Airport landed an improvement grant from the Tennessee Aeronautics Commission in the amount of $112,000 that will also aid in the upgrade of the airport’s safety requirements.

The Benton County Airport will be holding an open house to the public to show their desired layout plan on October 25 and 26, starting at 6 p.m. The Airport Board members will be present during the event to discuss the future goals of the airport.
