Bonding Time: Family Reunion Activities for All Ages

Many of us don’t get to see family as often as we’d like. Whether it’s because you’ve fallen out of touch or they live hundreds of miles away, it can feel lonely when you are disconnected from the people you love. Because of this, occasional family reunions are crucial to breaking down these barriers and reforging lifelong bonds. However, planning a reunion of your own can be a struggle, especially when you’re trying to accommodate those of varying age groups. Fortunately, we’ve compiled a short list of family reunion activities for those of all ages to ensure no one feels left out.

Yard Games and Scavenger Hunts

It’s always fun to chat with a relative over a game of cornhole or lawn darts. So, make sure to set a few of these games up. Not only do they allow your family to work together, but they can also spur some friendly competition. Kids will especially love having something to run around and play with while the adults catch up on life. If you want to preoccupy them for a little longer, consider setting up a scavenger hunt to keep the fun going until dinnertime.

Watch or Play Sports

For family members that love sports, you could also set aside some space for them to play or watch an athletic event. Sports play an important role in our everyday lives, helping us develop communication skills and confidence. They also bring us closer to the people around us by encouraging us to work together towards a common goal. Because of this, they’re the perfect addition to family events. Best of all, even if certain family members can’t play, they can always cheer from the sidelines.

Campfire Stories

Another fun family reunion activity for those of all ages is story time. Several generations will be present at your event, and each of them will have great stories to tell of their time growing up. You never know what adventures could come to light over a crackling fire, and your older loved ones will relish the time getting to talk about their youth.

Take a Group Photo

Above all else, make sure you set some time aside to get a current family photo. Families constantly change, whether you add a few additional people, or some happen to pass on. Taking photographs and making memories today can do a lot for your relationships and memories down the line.

Participating in an activity together is a great way to communicate with your loved ones and make new memories that will last a lifetime. So, don’t throw just any old potluck party when you could do something to bring you closer together. With these ideas, your family will surely have plenty to talk about in years to come.
